Acorn mushrooms

K made these sweet little acorn mushrooms today. We got the idea from the blog twig and toadstool. First we painted them and then he glued the acorn back in the top, but upside down.

kid swap

K entered a little swap for himself.  He was paired up with another 3 year old and they each made each other a Christmas ornament.  K made this wool felted dragon lantern.  He received a wool felted sushi and gingerbread man.  They were really sweet. :)

boat

K and I made this funny little boat from a half a milk carton, a straw, paper, and paint.  We found the idea in family fun magazine. 

Corn lights

Another Family Fun idea.  We used pop bottles to make light up corn. 

Finger knitting

I taught K to finger knit the other day.  He actually did surprising well.  I wasn't sure if he would understand the weaving part.  The only problem was that the 2nd he got it he was bored and wanted to run off to do something else.  Oh well.  Perhaps in another 6 months we can try and re-visit.  The top picture is his finger knitting and the 2nd picture is what he decided to do with it.  This is hanging from our ficus tree in the living room. 

Corn husk dolls

Here are K and my first corn dolls.  I love K's little corn baby in the 2nd picture.  He was so proud to have done it himself (he just need a little help with tying).  We first soaked the dried out corn husks before shaping them into little people.  

pounded flowers

Just a quick picture of the flowers K and I pounded out.  We placed flowers in-between sheets of paper and used hammers to pound the color out.  It was quite fun and they turned out pretty neat.  

nature stained glass

These aren't the best pictures, but K and I had a good time making these nature stained glass.  We bought contact paper at the store to make them.  It was a nice, easy project to do with a little person. :)

I saved our egg shells for quite awhile before we were ready. They were really easy to fill and glue shut. The problem though was that none of the kids were strong enough to actually break the eggs (the kids are were 2, 3, and 4). In the end us adults threw some and the kids stomped on them.

Sundial

Found this idea from book. K has been really curious about clocks lately so this was the perfect project for him. We just taped a pencil to a round piece of cardboard. Then we taped the sundial onto a stand on our porch. Every hour or so we went out to mark the time with a ruler. Since we made this we've actually been using it as a clock when we're outside.

Hot Rocks

We had a great time watching the crayons melt on the hot rocks. I cooked the rocks at about 375 for probably 20mins. The two big rocks stayed hot for a really long time. K's smaller rock started to cool off before he was really done.

K has been making tons of these handprint animals. We have a book that gives you ideas on how to use your handprints to make all sorts of animals. I'll have to get pictures of the others as they turn out so cute.

We also did a popcorn snow picture one day with some expired popcorn we had in the house. K loves using the glue but seems indifferent about actually gluing something on the paper. :)

Heart Garland

This is really just a simple garland. I wanted K to be able to help make it so we used felt and just some embrodiery thread. K had a great time sewing all the hearts together. I had a terrible time taking a good picture. Sorry.

Window Stars and stained glass

I pulled out the supplies to make a Valentine window star and K made this really pretty stained glass. He was so pleased with the results.

Valentines Day Cards

Valentine printmaking.

First we used a big piece of plastic. We used masking tape to make a frame. Then we painted inside the frame.

Next k used a Q-tip to draw a picture. then he would press a piece of paper on top of the painting.

Kid art

Between morning sickness, and viruses, K and I have been trying to get back into lots of art projects. Here are a couple of our recent ones. The first was using solar paper. I couldn't believe it worked as the paper is actually from when I was a kid, plus we hardly have any sun here. the 2nd one was painted using cooked noodles. K loved slapping the noodles into the paint and then onto the paper.

Christmas Projects

We've been busy over here with holidays and I haven't had any time to get our pictures up here. So here are our projects from over the past month. I've given links for the projects that I found on the internet.

This is a picture Casey's family and the matching PJ bottoms I made for everyone for Christmas.

Homemade wholegrain cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning.

Christmas eve we had a little taffy pull.

Every year we cute fruit(lemons, oranges, limes, and grapefruit) and hang it on the tree. After the tree comes down we will cover the fruit in peanut butter and birdseed and hang them on a tree outside.

This is a picture of K's little group of friends. We got together over the holidays to celebrate and exchange handmade gifts. I made the kids matching fish PJ bottoms. Somehow I lucked out and got them all in one picture.

Sorry for the sideways picture. These are k's handprints to form a reindeer. He gave these away to his relatives for Christmas.

Learning to sew

K has been asking to sew for quite awhile now. My mom found this little sewing machine at a garage sale and K loves it! It took us awhile to figure out how to get the thing going (its not the worlds best sewing machine), but now he's asking to sew all the time. I love the way he examines his stitches after sewing. Its really sweet.
