Fairy Gardens

About two weeks before Easter we planted pots with grass seed. I started to get a little worried a few days before easter when it had still not sprouted but come Easter morning the grass was ready.
K and I also took some walks around the block collecting sticks, bark, leaves, and stones. We must have looked quite strange gathering these things out of people's yards. Ha ha.
For the gardens we also had colored wool, glass stones, and ceramic tiles. Oh and a glue gun to make furniture.
Everyone in the family (accept my brother who fell asleep) joined in the fun.

K's uncle made this fairy stone hedge.

K's Aunt made this Seuss like garden (sorry its hard to get a good angle on these gardens).

K's Grandma mad this fairy graveyard.

K's Mom (me) and dad made this fairy garden.

This one was made by K's other grandma and his grandpa Frank.

Naturally Dyed Eggs

We dyed eggs with spices and veggies again this year. We used purple cabbage for the blue, turmeric for the yellow, onion skins and paprika for orange, and beats for red. For some strange reason the beats turned the eggs brown. Not sure what went wrong there.
Anyway as you can see by this post I'm a little behind. :)

My Motherblessing

Just two days away from my due date. K was 10 days late so I'm sure I'll be at least a little late with this one. My friends and family threw me a wonderful mother blessing. They all said such kind words. My friend Mary used henna to paint this awesome Celtic tree of life on my belly.

Snail booties

I thought I had posted these snail booties awhile back. These were sent to my friend of whom I threw her mother blessing. She loves the color purple. :)

Spring Nature Table

Here is our Spring Nature table. K did the decorating this time around. We received the swaps, rainbow, knitted snail, and white basket in different swaps. I made the root children, felted bird, spring gnome, and chick. We received the snail puzzle, hedgehog puzzle, and snail candle holders as gifts from a good friend. :)
Oh K made the picture of the tree in the background.

Knitted nest

The nest upside down

Found this great pattern at: http://naturalsuburbia.blogspot.com/search/label/Knitted%20Nest
Then I wet felted the eggs for all the nests. These nests are for an Easter swap.

Bendy Dolls

I have finally finished the bendy dolls I made for an Easter swap. They were actually a ton of fun to make. I had wanted to use our wood burner to make their faces but the darn thing has disappeared. I look forward to making more bendy people for K to play with as he kept running away with them as I was making them.

Sundial

Found this idea from book. K has been really curious about clocks lately so this was the perfect project for him. We just taped a pencil to a round piece of cardboard. Then we taped the sundial onto a stand on our porch. Every hour or so we went out to mark the time with a ruler. Since we made this we've actually been using it as a clock when we're outside.

Food adventures

For the first day of spring we made a bunny loaf. Boy was that some great bread! K enjoyed eating the bunny's ears.
On another day we also made bear claws. K saw them in a magazine and insisted that we make them. Of course the magazine didn't have a recipe so we had to figure it out for ourselves. They look cool but never did harden. Oh well. K was happy with the result anyway.

Hot Rocks

Found this great project: http://www.5orangepotatoes.com/blog/2011/03/04/hot-rocks-painting-with-wax-on-rocks/
We had a great time watching the crayons melt on the hot rocks. I cooked the rocks at about 375 for probably 20mins. The two big rocks stayed hot for a really long time. K's smaller rock started to cool off before he was really done.

Maple syrup

One thing I love about living in Michigan is getting to see maple Syrup being made. We visited a local metropark and saw the whole process. K was even able to taste the sap coming right out of the tree. Its too bad we don't have any maple trees on our property to try and make our own. The park also showed the traditional way that maple sap was collected and made into candy by Native Americans.

Fruit Salad

So I'm a bit behind here in the blogging world. Here are a couple of left over pictures from St. Patrick's day. We spent the day hiking around the nature center and for dinner I made a rainbow fruit salad. I used some frozen fruit to cut down the cost. The purple is naturally dyed coconut.

Another Mother blessing

I really have had a number of friends give birth in the last 5 months. For my last friend that just gave birth about a week ago I hosted her mother blessing in Chicago. Here is a picture of her birthing candle burning and the tree of life I painted on her belly with Henna.
